Outdoor traditions that confuse non-hunters

My family goes on a Christmas morning hunt almost every year. To us it's normal, to my wife's family, they think we're nuts for leaving the house. We're usually back by 9am and nobody misses anything, but they still don't get it. What outdoor Christmas traditions does your family have that others don't understand?

We're Portuguese - everyone (kids, grandparents, visitors) start with a little glass of port. Morning hours be damned.

Edit: I guess that's not an outdoor thing (although it could be). Missed that part of the question
