Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. I'd like to bring a firearm with me, but going through New York State makes that tricky. I know they have some strict laws, which adds a layer of stress to the whole journey. Avoiding NY adds a ridiculous amount of drive time, and I've got a limited window for this trip. Just curious if anyone else has dealt with this situation and what you decided to do. It'd be great to hear how you navigated the laws or if you found a better route.

That's what I've been reading - and seems like thats perfectly legal. Really dislike traveling above the Mason Dixon line for sure.

Gas up in Virginia and don't stop til you get out of New York. That was our strategy when my son was stationed in Portsmouth and Groton.🤗

A couple years ago we drove to VT from SC and the route we chose put us driving thru NY...i stopped around Scranton, PA and cleared the pistols, separated the ammo from the guns, locked the guns in one case and the ammo in another...drove thru NY without stopping...might have been more than I needed to do but i took no chances with SC plates etc

Don't get stopped and you won't have a problem anywhere! Seriously, I just avoid states like NY and New Jersey. These days I'm not going anywhere I can't carry

This is why I don't go north. I'll go west. Most of those states have laws similar to SC.

Is flying an option? I hate it, but sometimes it's necessary
