Why I finally mounted a red dot on my shotgun

People at the range looked at me funny at first, then they watched me break clays faster than I ever did with a bead. Now two of those same people have red dots on their shotguns. You don’t have to be a purist when the results are obvious.

I am brand new with a shotgun and had my first chance shooting clays today - the red dot made it way easier to hit those clays. I didn't hit every one (they aren't magic) but I also tried an O/U with a gold bead and was way worse. So, yeah, the red dot was a great aid to me hitting moving objects.

I turned 69 last week and my eyesight ain't what it used to be for sure. The red dots are fairly common now on handguns & AR style rifles, but I had really thought about my shotgun. I'm thinking about it now, what kind did you get and what model shotgun did you mount it on?

I personally run a Holosun 508T on a Beretta 1301

If I did it again, I'd buy the Vortex Viper Shotgun model...its an essentially universal fit enclosed red dot that doesnt require anything extra to mount other than your receiver to be drilled and tapped

I got the Vortex Viper for my Franchi and it's fantastic.
