I’m pretty new to fishing and it hit me that I should take my 5-year-old out for a little adventure. I spotted some kid-sized rods at a store, but I’m not sure if that’s the way to go. What’s the best approach for a beginner like us? I’d love to hear what kind of gear you all would recommend for just a fun day by the water.

Push-button reel like the Shakespeare Catch More Fish 3-foot rod. Earthworms on a #6 hook under a bobber and catch panfish quick to keep the 5-year-old hooked.

That's a great setup, push-button reel, worms, and a bobber will keep your kid reeling fish instead of tangles.
Yeah that’s the ticket right there, nothing beats seeing a kid light up when that bobber drops. Push-button reels and worms are classic kid magnets that gets them catching more than fussing with knots
