Curious about what not to wear to the range. I’ve been going a bit lately and have been eyeing what other folks wear. It’s kinda surprising how some outfits just seem off.

One thing I’ve picked up on is camo. Like, I get it if you’re hunting or out in the woods, but wearing it to a shooting range? Feels a bit much to me. I mean, it’s not a military operation, right? Some guys look like they’re ready for an ambush instead of just running drills.

I’ve settled into a routine with my clothes. Nothing fancy. Just some jeans, a plain t-shirt, and sturdy boots. I feel like it keeps things comfortable and low-key. Definitely steering clear of sandals or flip-flops—too risky for my taste.

So, what do you all think? Am I overanalyzing this? What do you wear? Anything that just doesn’t work for range day in your experience?

What you're wearing is exactly what I wear. I'm not trying to look 'tactical' to anyone and I am definitely not trying to impress anyone.

Pretty much the same, just normal clothes suited for the weather...the vast majority of my shooting is outdoors so clothing is weather dependent...generally closed toed shoes but i've found myself in the woods in flip flops and not worried much about it...i worry more about eye pro and ear pro over the rest of my clothing

Since I am no longer in the military there is no need for me to wear camo to shoot. Jeans or lightweight pants and closed toe shoes. Usually a shirt with a pocket is good enough.

We might have the only range/club where one of our members shoots in shorts, wife beater t-shirt and flip flops, topped off by 2 Diamond ear rings and a huge gold medallion hanging around his neck. Everyone else wears normal clothes you would expect, but this guy is from New Jersey and we just ignore his attire.

Wear normal comfortable street clothing. As an instructor I recommend a shirt with a collar - buttoned if possible. I’ve see hot range brass go down shirts resulting in the “Brass Dance”. Often leads to unsafe moments as the shooter jumps out of the port with the firearm. I often have this conversation with women with swoop neck or low cut blouses. If you wear a “T” shirt, I suggest untucking it from your pants so if a hot case goes down your neck, it’ll fall through.
Recommend a billed (baseball cap). Helps keep brass off your face especially as it bounces off the port dividers or from your neighbor. Hearing and eye protection are a must!
Closed shoes - same hot brass issue.
Shorts in hot weather are not a problem.
Also for women… no spiked heels, low cut blouses, excessively long fingernails, or lots of jewelry,

I wear the same thing I wear for a normal day. I’m retired so no ‘work’ wardrobe. I do dress appropriately for the weather and add specific cooling type materials.
Wait, this wasn’t you walking out of PSA the other day?? 😂
