I'm super new to hunting, so take my input with a large shaker of salt. To me, if I'm not comfortable that I can make an ethical shot, it's on me to do what I can to improve my accuracy to get to that point. I'm working a new Ruger Hawkeye in .308 to get ready for August and deer season. Yes, I can hit an 8" paper plate consistently, but I still don't like the degree of control I currently have. Right now, though, I know it's technique rather than equipment, so I'm focusing on skill improvement. If I felt my rifle was to blame, then yes, I'd be looking at whatever things I could to improve the gun's accuracy.
